Romania Sets December 7 for Partial Local Elections
Government spokesperson Ioana Dogioiu confirmed that the elections will also include the presidency of the Buzau County Council and mayoral races in ten other localities that have been without leaders since last year. She shared this information during a press conference at the Victoria Palace on Thursday.
The election process will officially begin on November 2, with campaigning set to run from November 22 to December 6. Voting will take place on December 7, with polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. local time.
Candidates for the Bucharest mayoral race and the Buzau County Council presidency can submit their applications between November 12 and 17. The government has shortened procedural deadlines as part of the partial election preparations.
Nicusor Dan, the former mayor of Bucharest, was elected president of Romania in May. Stelian Bujduveanu, his deputy from the National Liberal Party, is currently serving as interim mayor.
The December vote will determine who leads Romania's capital, a city of over two million people, for the remainder of the current local government term.
